| Well it is a shame i have to do this ,but for the record what pups we lost were 8 to 10 weeks old not any all age hounds have now or ever been unhealthy ,at our place ,we were told by several men locally we dshould have never said anything to anyone, well for the record to all of you I owe my fellow beaglers especially ones who let me run hounds for them just a few , that i had an unidentified illness in my puppies ,were treating for cocidiass and didnt help what is the crime guys this was the right thing to do we went on this board for help as well as spent seveal hundred @a our vet till we found out what it was ,now we have no ill pups or hounds here 1 pup at the vet period ,but my phone is ringing with rumors , lies , misrepresentation ,half the truth is a whole lie , local talk no doubt stay away from my place wow the truth is if you dont know it and have not talked to me you should not be repeating anything you have not checked yourself we still beleive we did the right thing getting info. and help as far as people not useing our kennels wow what a releif , I have been a Pastor for 25 yr. and this is what we call GOSSIP ,man it is a shame and now for the record I WILL put the sanitation ,cleanliness ,and medical care and attention to our hounds up against any i have seen in this area not bragging it is a fact we humbly try to do our best to represent the hounds we breed we exspect alot of them and we feel it is our duty to take care of them Proverbs 12:10 A rightous man regardeth the life of his beast ,we try to practice this all my boys feel the same way they kept some of those pups in there room to save them ,for the final record i would do it again ask for help seek help ,but the lies and rumors are from men who neither really care ,or just want something to talk about , becarefull you might lose pups ,treat them and lose them ,and need help as we did if you have a legitamte question call me ,not the spitting wittle club who stake theres out with a chain and barrel ,and throw the food on ground and never lose a hound we just thought we were doing the right thing by notifying our friends ,about this situation so there you have it what would you do ,?????? yours for the Beagle the Rev. @ G&S |

Rev, I don't think that you need to explain your actions! You did not know about Garidia (sp). Now you do, I have never had a problem wt it. The signs are similar to Coccidia.
Terry gave you some very good advice, keep medication on hand.Another medication for Garidia is Panacur (safeguard), it is not as good as fishzoil and you must give for a longer time than just worming.
I am suprised that your Vet did not know what your pups had.
I sure hope you do not lose any more pups.

Rev
We need more honesty and integrity in this sport of Beagling. I'm glad to see you set it straight. Our hounds, God's gift to us are more than just objects to trade and sell. Each life has potential and is precious. Glad you were able to save some. I know your difficulties and hardship will help others.
Its a shame, some can only feel better about themselves, if they put down others. Honesty and Integrity will outlast rumors.
May God Continue To Bless You
Yours In Christ

I am sorry to hear this happened to you and there is no shame in having an infection in your kennel. It has or WILL happen to all of us at one point or another.
Coccidia is COMMON and is passed through bird feces. People with large trees around their kennel are the most at risk. Giardia is usually found in water (mud puddles) and BOTH are easily treated once the infection has been diagnosed!!! Neither are signs of a dirty kennel. Anyone that thinks that is just plain ignorant!! They are both parisites NOT viruses. It is no different than a dog getting worms!
Rev, You might consider looking into fenbendazol (safeguard) as it will kill Giardia. I use safeguard once a month for hooks, rounds, and whips and have never had an infection of Giardia. I think the reason why is it is killed before it ever has a chance to take hold.
Good luck to you Sir. |

Rev,
Things happen for a reason. Anyone who has seen your posts and pictures of your kennels know this was not from neglect or indifference.
Here's a nice motto:
Be who you are and say what
you feel, because those that
matter don't mind... and those
that mind don't matter!

You did the right thing Rev. You did everything you could to save those pups. This could have happened to anyone. Like SouthernBeagles said, everyone gets an infection in their kennel at one time of another. Good luck with all your pups and good luck in the upcoming trial season!

Rev,
You did the right thing just as I would thats why the call this the Q and A board it's to and should be a sight were fellow beaglers could go to one another and get info. Not a rumor board. Iv'e judged alot of your dogs and from me as a fellow man not perfect in any way feel very strongly that you guy's run a very tight program at G&S kennels. All they got to do is go to your website and check it out. I know that you are a very honest person and try to do the right thing. I still would love to bring down a few hounds for you to condition them. Rumors are one of mans down falls along with being JEALOUS to one another. hold your head up high you have nothing to be a shamed of you are the man!!!! And to all that starting rumors what comes around goes around!!!! Give me a call some time would love to come watch Slab and PAP run a rabbit. 980 622 7317

Mr Rev,
i'm going to be honest with you, because i know you appreciate honesty, and i speak my honest thoughts.
the illness does not help sell dogs obviously, but i'm confident was totally out of your control, and absolutely did the right thing by making it puplic. i honestly feel you would have got more frowns if people "Found out through the grape vine". but you came forward and cleared it up, and moved forward. all you can really do. |

Va, What those dogs had wouldn't have stopped me from buying a dog and shouldn't stop anyone else. That would be like turning down one with tape worms. Folks shouldn't give it a second thought!
Now if he had the big B, I might worry and I could understand the grape vine comment over something like THAT....but not THIS!
I just think some made a big deal over nothing and I am not sure why??.....not that loosing pups is nothing....but the stink they made over Giardia and Coccidia is insane! Surely those people aren't THAT stupid are they? |

| Rev, You did the right thing, You were concerned and sought help. If something like this happens in the future will you do the right thing and seek help once again, I certainly hope so. I may be reading a little more into your post than what actually exists, but I get the idea your feelings are hurt more than anything. This speaks well of you. It shows you take pride in your actions ( not the kind that goes before a fall) and that you try to do well. When we do all we can and know we are doing right , it hurts our feelings when we are accused of some type of wrong-doing or misdeed. On the other hand I have never felt that you could hurt a crook's feelings, He doesn't care . You have not made any enemies , but you have possibly had a few exposed . Which means you have lost nothing ,but have actually gained. I don't want to preach a sermon here ,but Jealousy is an ugly thing , and you probably have a little aimed at you, perhaps along with some other things. These type of people do not have the audiance that we normally believe they do and the quality of it is usually low. If every good man got upset everytime someone said something about them that wasn't true, there would be a river of tears flowing through this place. Why would you think you could escape it. Head up! |

| I can say that When I rode up with Bry'r Kreek. We pulled up to see the rev struggling to place a canopy over some of his pups that already had some shade. After helping him I walked around and looked. We sat and talked for a good while. While sitting there, I only saw a horsefly, few knats. There was not anysort of an odor lingering around. The only thing I could complain about was the heat. He has a nice, clean well taken care of kennel. jamey |

I suspect this was "Giardia " . If so it is really difucult to see through a microscope . The micro organism is transparent as the liquid it is suspended in . You almost have to see a "wake" when it moves around .
Giardia is also called "beaver fever " it can be contracted in clear pure looking water .
I have had an experience with it and it is mind boggling to define .
I got lucky my vet had been to Colorado and got it himself when he drank out of a beaver pond . Clear cool mountain water .
It'll make you defacate like there's no tomorrow .
Keep 'em running . |
